El Canuelo

Photograph by Alamy

Going away on holiday is all about relaxing and spending your days doing nothing. If you agree then this beach in Tarifa, Andalucia, is perfect for you.

El Canuelo is super laid-back and protected by a designated nature reserve - it's as far away from the crowded Costa del Sol can get. They are large stretches of coastline and plenty of coves which are often entirely empty, leaving you to sunbathe and dip your toes in the waters in peace and quiet.

Perfect for those who just want to escape!

Pinarello Beach

Small-scale Mediterranean beach life still exists in Corsica, as Pinarello Beach proves. It's a picturesque long stretch (1.2km) of soft white sand backed by dramatic mountains and overlooked by a Genoese watchtower.

Located in the seaside hemlet of Pinarello, this is a popular family-friendly beach destination, with plenty of opportunities for refreshments and water sports. Perfect for those sporty types or just lay out a towel and sit back and relax if that's more your thing.

We certainly wish we could be there.

The beach hidden by fields...

Spain has an abundance of wonderful beaches; long sandy ones, small rocky ones, a few busy ones, many deserted ones, some unusual ones. The most in unusual is Playa de Gulpiyuri near Llanes, Spain. It has all the essentials of any beach: sand, salt-water, waves and tide. But it is surrounded by fields!

Imagine walking around and stumbling across this lush green meadow, then finding a tiny beach tucked way. This really is a hidden gem and definitely worth a visit!

Klein Curacao

In the Caribbean Klein Curacao is an uninhabited islet and is home to the longest beach in Curacao, which is eight miles away by boat from Curacao's southeastern end.

This surely is a getaway! Although it is a two-hour trip to actually get to the beach itself - it definitely is worth it for those who want to escape for a few hours.

Nanjizal Bay

Nanjizal Bay is a pretty beach situated in Penwith, Cornwall.

Due to it's relative inaccessibility, Nanjizal has remained more or less untouched which means it's never busy. Most people that do go along here are usually walkers. So this is the ideal spot for some quiet time. For those who like adventure, there's plenty of coves and caves to explore and maybe find some hidden treasures. Also, for those who are more playful then there is a waterfall and stream to splash around in.

It's the perfect spot to relax and have some quiet time, or even a place to take the family. As the beach is empty most of the time it would be like having your own private beach in the UK.
